During the industrial era, Europe was an incubator for new scientific and technological projects. With time, many of these small-scale projects boomed and became some of the finest product manufacturers and cooperate companies ever to grace our planet, and Rado (without being too hyperbolic) surely deserves a spot in that lot.
Rado was founded in the year 1917 by three brothers–Fritz, Ernst and Werner Schlup under the name Schlup & Co., and since then it has made a journey upstream in the market of watches. For more than 40 years, the company has invested in creating a unique brand by introducing watches built on new and improved raw materials. With its humble beginnings in Switzerland, Rado has now evolved into pioneering the art of watchmaking. It was in the year 1962, when they perfected their first scratch proof model called the “DiaStar”. This opened a whole new arena for them and the DiaStar became their USP for future endeavours. Rado made another big splash in the market when they started using sapphire crystals. These crystals with their hardness and transparency made a scratch resistant surface. In addition to that, they developed methods to coat ceramic and metallic layers on their cases to give it an extra mile in their long run. This led to the birth of Ceramos. Ceramos-a perfect marriage between ceramics and metals was born at their R&D. Ceramos is an extremely tough yet feather-light material which gained a lot of attention when it was first introduced in the Rado D-Star line model. Today these materials are used spacecrafts, medical devices and F1 racing cars.
Rado has also contributed a lot to the fashion segment too with its stylish and path breaking designer ladies watch collections. Their ultra sleek designer watches became the “talk of the fashion town”. Rado still continues its passionate journey in reinventing new age additions to its long list of marvellous watches.
